5 BLACK-OWNED CHILDRENSWEAR BRANDS TO SUPPORT

Hey mamas,

For black history month, I wanted to highlight Black designers and brands that I think make the childrenswear space better with beautiful designs and forward sustainable practices.

Le Petit Elle

for vintage-inspired with a modern twist lovers

Le Petit Elle is a children’s heirloom quality-line infused with a vintage spirit. Each item is handmade in New York from high-quality and organic fabrics.

I’ve been eyeing on getting one dress for Mya for so long from this shop, what got me is how the dresses melt vintage with a pop of modern (think gingham, velvet, peter pan collars )

Le Petit Elle Organic is the sister online retail store worldwide shop with a selection of well-curated childrenswear brands (le Collégien, Maileg, Young soles, etc)

Pro tip: join their FB group for exclusive drops or customized creations!

Jabella Fleur

for Vintage inspired OOTD inspiration

Alissa B. sews the most beautiful vintage-inspired outfits for her 3 girls from beautiful fabric she thrifts in Atlanta.
Her creativity is endless, follow her on stories to get a sneak peek at her process where she draws inspirations from (she shares that the movie ‘’Daughter of the dust’’ is one of her main, who is also BTW one of Beyonce’s Lemonade inspirations but I digress :)) and how she sews and style her creations on her mini muses!
For me, it’s one of these IG accounts that sparks pure joy and inspiration, and for which I'm just grateful Instagram exists so we can know about this amazing talent!

Sun and Lace
for the heirloom-quality leather goods lover

When my kids were babies, I remember going on a long hunt for comfortable yet stylish pre-walker shoes that would be comfortable but a bit dressy for nice at-home pictures! Look no further Sun & Lace is exactly that, the feel is vintage and minimalistic with an emphasis on high comfort.

You can create your very own customized of moccs, mary-janes or boots by choosing amongst the different soft gender-neutral leather colors and a choice of 9 different laces to pair with. Also available cute mini cross-body leather bags for kids and hair accessories.

Each leather good item is handmade with love in Wisconsin US.

Shaebū
for the minimalist at heart

I love the follow the founder Anne @simplicite_ici, this French-based mom of 2 and content creator is a true inspiration for minimalist living and I love how she document her life with her 2 little kids and share tips on living her best simplistic life on the day to day.

She launched last year Shaebu a capsule online shop with such an interesting concept, the focus is on creating a limited range of item to form an everyday super wearable capsule. Each item is then available to choose from gorgeous neutral palette tones. They operate on small batches and pre-orders production only to best minimize waste and have a principle that for any new item launched 1 other is removed from the previous collection. I think we can learn so much from these high standards practices!

the online shop is based in France and not shipping to North America at the moment but the beautiful imagery is worth checking and supporting by following and sharing!

Design Dua
for ethically made and quality craftsmanship considerate parents

Oh, I wish I knew about these bassinets when my kids were babies!

At the core of Design Dua is to make available beautifully-designed African baby baskets and ensure that the local artisans crafting them get fair compensation and thrive from their craft. Their bassinets are handmade, have a beautiful aesthetic design, and use safe materials including dried elephant grass with no pesticides. The brand also developed a line of organic sleepwear essentials.
